01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Stepping off the busy routes near Senso-ji and Kaminarimon into a quiet side street leads to Chanko-Beya Asakusa, where authentic chanko nabe simmers over carefully prepared broths. The signature hot pot is offered in 3 distinct soup styles: soppu chanko nabe, blending a gentle sweet soy sauce with rich chicken bone broth; miso chanko nabe, deepened with aged miso; and shio chanko nabe, delivering a clean profile from chicken stock and kombu kelp. As seafood, savory meatballs, and heaps of vegetables simmer away, the broth grows progressively richer. Diners can tailor the flavor by ordering additional meat or vegetable platters, or stirring in a spicy seasoning paste. The classic way to finish the concentrated soup is with Chinese noodles, udon and egg, rice and egg porridge, or soft mochi rice cakes.

Seasonal Sashimi, Grilled Delicacies, and Curated Sake

Before the hot pot reaches a boil, the izakaya-style à la carte menu offers plenty of starters and drinks companions. Fresh sashimi platters feature raw tuna, fresh striped jack, and straw-seared bonito, complemented by hot dishes like fragrant Saikyo miso-marinated black cod, crispy fried horse mackerel, and Japanese fried chicken. The beverage list highlights draft beer alongside a thoughtful selection of regional sake from Fukushima, including Tenmei, Aizumusume, and Iwaki Kotobuki Junmai Daiginjo, each enhancing the richness of fresh seafood and simmering broths.

Midday Sets and Group Banquets

At lunch, the kitchen offers budget-friendly sets with free rice upgrades, including the chanko nabe set, a five-piece sashimi set, and a fried chicken set, with lunch beer available as an easy accompaniment. Counter and table seats sit near the front, while tatami seating toward the back comfortably handles small meals or larger parties sharing course menus centered around the signature mixed chanko nabe, complete with sashimi and grilled items. Day or night, the establishment accommodates varied gatherings with adaptable broth options and well-curated dishes.
